Hi all, seem to have developed a very nasty, metallic rattle in my Peugeot Partner van(diesel).

It happened today just after following a lorry on a very wet road, the air filter is not wet though.

The rattle comes and goes and is very loud, people turn around. Sounds like it is coming from the top left hand side, but could be wrong.

It actually was losing power whilst rattling, then rattle stopped and power resumed.

Cheers in advance.

If it's running fine now, and making no noises, I wouldnt worry too much about it.

My Volvo V70 D5 did this a few weeks ago.

Briefly.

Later, the head destroyed itself with a multitude of cracks. Appears to be some of the hydraulic tappets protesting then making a violent exit.

I think I said bugger, but it might have been something else..irked

You say here the rattle stopped and power resumed ?

So is it still rattling or not ?

Either way, a diesel rattling louder than normal is never a good sign.

It did stop but returned. It is intermittent, about 50% of the time. Not driving it at the moment.
