digital gear indicator installation
Discussion
Hello all,
I want to fit a digital gear indicator to my car. I know Acumen gear indicators work very well on bikes, would they work on a car as well?
Looking at the installation instructions ( FOUND HERE), one of the wires needs to be connected to the neutral bulb which is illuminated when changing between 1st and 2nd gears on a motorbike. However, its a bit unclear as to whether it needs the +12v or ground across this bulb. Anyway, obviously a car doesn't have a neutral bulb etc, so would this gear indicator work on a car? It uses the digital tacho and speedo signals which I can tap into on the back of my dash (I have all the pin outs), but I don't know if not having a neutral will stop it from working. I can trick the indicator into "seeing" a neutral bulb during set up (the instructions say you have to switch the gearbox to neutal after calibrating 1st gear and before you calibrate 2nd, after that you just go up through the gears), but I don't know if it will then need to see the neutral bulb once calibrated and during normal use. I suspect it only needs to see the neutral bulb so that it can display "N" and thats it, but I'd appreciate any advice if someone else on here has attempted the same/similar idea.
Many thanks in advance
