Is this an easy mistake to make ?

A friend who is apparently a top class truck mechanic fitted a reconditioned automatic gearbox to another friends car....the wrong way round causing what may now be a total writeoff.

Are trucks and cars so different or is the mechanic just useless?

I didn't think you could fit one backwards.
Maybe the rotation of the engine was reversed between them.

That's as likely as turning the car upside down in order to fit the box.

I really don't see how you could fit a gearbox backwards, what car is this on?

Unless they mean he has rebuilt the gearbox and fitted something the wrong way round within the gearbox. Which I would think is a lot easier to do as gearboxes usually tend to fit in one position.

I`ve heard about diffs being fitted upside down so you get lots of reverse gears and one forward??
There is more to this story??.... when fitting a typical auto box,if the torque converter lugs are not located in the front pump of the box,this can wreck the converter and box when starting the engine.
