Anyone got a recommendation for turbo replacement in Portsmouth? . It's cn 05 astra that had become very whistly at 60k . I've checked hosed for leaks but drawn a blank

performance ok ? burning any oil ?

Can't say I've heard of a worn turbo whistling on these.. maybe some diagnosis required first ?

I've been scratching my head on this one -
No oil burnt , coolant normal , performance and fuel economy unchanged .
Whistle at just above idle and under load . It has always been a whistler but last week it became noticeable above 25 mph all the time and a high pitch whine appeared that was never there before .
I've undone the pipes to and from the inter cooler and turbo in turn to try and isolate any air leak but the whistle remains frown
It's done a gentle 57 k - 40 k of which in the last 5 years by me . Oil changed once a year and always simmered and treated gently .

I don't know the engine in detail but IIRC there are some pipes sealed by o rings, be worth checking them.
Have you checked all vacuum hoses too ?

You could ask over at http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/forum.php, pretty helpful chaps over there who know the engine well.

Ill have a look in the morning at the pipes , think I've checked them all , which do you think are o ring sealed ? The ones I've removed to try and isolate the noise were the large diameter (inch plus) ones.

Turbos do whistle , some say its because there out of balance or sometime if you have a aftermarket exhaust or air filter this has less baffling in there you can hear it then.
My turbo on my van has been doing this for 70+ plus no burning oil or loss in boost.
If its not broke leave it alone.....

While you are maybe trying to pre-empt something...it may just be a case of wait and see.

If the car is driving fine, performing fine and there are no real symptoms of a problem....it's kind of hard to start messing, which could lead to you causing another problem.

Some boost pipes do use an o-ring type setup. Basically if you see a joint of some description with no external hose clamp, then good chance it uses an o-ring inside.

Some garages may have a smoke machine which is intended for finding leaks, if you can track one down.
