Hello All,

I'm trying to find someone that can make up some engine gaskets. I figure it'd be cheaper to go down that route, than purchasing them directly from the Lamborghini.

I've found Johnson's Gaskets, Sheefield, but they seem more geared towards the vintage end, rather than the young timers.

Any suggestions?

Any particular gasket ?

Ferriday Engineering might be an option, or Cometic in the US

Of course, for some gaskets you can just make them yourself with gasket paper, so it very much depends what you're talking about.

Where is this Sheefield you speak of? Why rule out a gasket maker without speaking to them?
They must be incredibly expensive gaskets for one-offs to be less expensive?

Depending which gasket you want it may be that getting one from A N Other instead of the genuine item from a franchised dealer might not be as good an idea as it seems.
Learnt that some years ago with a Ford V6 3.0lt Essex - non-genuine head gasket lasted less than 600 miles so had to strip the top end down again. Well known issue in the Scimitar Owners club at the time, unfortunately the club magazine didn't arrive until a couple of days after I'd fitted itrolleyes

Well it is looking like one of the head gaskets has gone. However in order to get at it, you need to take off quite a few other plates.
Currently a full engine set would be around 1200+vat.

So my concern was a) that is a lot of money and b) it would be old stock, so sat on a shelf in Bologna for around 30 years and c) It cannot be that much to get some new ones made.

Would the age of the set not be a problem?

Thank you for the replies.

Evoluzione, I did speak to Johnsons, he only does copper and cork gaskets hence my statement.

Age is a good question, but very hard to say.

If a gasket was on an engine and working ok for 30 years....you wouldnt go and change it.

So would sitting on a shelf be better or worse ?

Try Ferriday, if they cant help directly, they may know someone who can

It's a lot of money, but then it's a lot of gaskets, I would go with what's available if it were me.
I think it may be the head gasket which will be the problem to make, if you can get a pic to show people it will help enormously.
Dobson at Keighley would be worth asking, not too far from you and not a bad drive either. :-)

Eurospares have a full gasket set for £718.00 + VAT!! Seems a good price for a rare Italian car. Cometic will produce gaskets of exceptional quality, but normally have a minimum order of between 5 or 10 sets. Seems that the first option would be the best route.

By the way, proper looking car....love it.

I use to rebuild a few of the old Maserati engines with the dohc and triple carb set up (Mexico , Royal , birdcage rep ect ect , apart from havin appalling casting inc all bolt holes the dealer gaskets were rubbish a lot of the people who sell the gaskets have them made lets just say quality control not at its best.

I don't know how old your car is but there is one thing that needs to be 100% right is the head gasket as the older Italian blocks don't like head studs or and bolts being done up to many times !!!!

Also as we found out in the end most of the torques in the "dealer " manuals are way off ......

A trivial amount of Googling indicated that these gaskets are being made in Australia and available on Ebay for not too much money.
