Hello,
I've checked Pistonheads content on and off for a couple of years and thought I would share details of my latest project.

I drive an Alfa 159 with the 1.9L 150HP 16v z19dth engine (as fitted also to Vauxhall and Saab)

The first problem was a blocked DPF, which I rectified by drilling into it. The filter is a special wall flow filter and yiou only ned to drill 10-20mm into the rear of it to make it flow freely. I kept going with the drill in stages to see what would happen until i eventually had drilled all the way through it.

The big improvement was just after the intial short reach drill, because it removed a lot of the closing caps from the rear of the filter core. Every change after that was small by comparison. Then I was left with a DPF which had a 2" hole through it.

Knowing that regeneration was pointless i did some studying, and being an engineer (control and automation) I came up with a dongle type device which sits in the OBD socket permanently and which keeps DPF regens at bay.

I then blocked the EGR in stages until the dreaded Euro 4 'P0401' code appeared with a check engine light. Because the dongle was already installed for the DPF I added some firmware to it to check for EGR faults and to reset them safely. If other faults are present they're allowed to take precedence.

Basic details of the project are here http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/DieselDPF/?ygui...http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/DieselDPF/?ygui...

I currently have an ebay listing on the go (MODS - I am not selling anything, I am merely promoting a free solution to fellow motorists in a similar boat smile Please read the eBay listing to see smile

I am happy to deal with any questions and I am also keen to modify this device to work with other vehicles. if anyone is interested in helping me please do get in touch.

very briefly, the device only issues run of the mill, low priority OBD messages which seem to be in existence in all Euro 4 vehicles, so hopefully the owners of other marques can benefit.

Currently though, if blocking off your EGR gives a P0401 code then this device should work for you too.

Hi Chris, any chance you're still selling these on ebay?
