Pug 306 tdi generator seizure problem
Discussion
Had new timing and generator belts fitted about 900 miles ago and the generator seemed to seize up. Impossible to spin the pulley wheel at all by hand once we got it off the car. Fitted a good used one and within 50 miles the same thing has happened.
Could overtightning of the belt have caused this?
Thanks for comment/advise.

It should not have a self tensioner fitted so long as its an XUD 1.9TD and not the 2.0HDI model, these cars are not prone to this fault
so can only assume it's the Serpentine belt being over tensioned
fit another known good unit and tension the belt to get a 90 degree approx twist on the longest run and you will be fine

You access the tensioner from the wheel arch. There is no feel for how much tension you are applying as you just wind away on the nut so it would be quite easy to overdo it.

Quite right Steve
and often referred to as the pendulum in XUD circles
2 6MM Allen headed bolts as I remember crankedup said:
Job was done by local garage, new timing belt and generator belt fitted. To late to complain as car has covered around 1k miles since fitting. Quite annoying when you pay good money for work to be done.
Don't be daft I run a garage and if I fitted an alternator that only lasted 1k I would be expected to replace it
and I would no argument as many other garages would too
you should have taken the car back before you touched it really
