Hi all

I am missing a bolt from the lower ball joint on my mini. It is a fairly standard 13mm bolt but is castlated and has a certain thread length (can't remember what at this time)

Is there a good place online to buy these sorts of things? I am forever losing bolts etc, and would like a very easy way to replace them. Obviously I could go to Mini but I reckon I would get bummed on the price.

TIA

For normal fixings where I know the thread pitch, length, material spec etc I buy from namrick.co.uk. I go to the OEM for anything vaguely specialist though.

You could try this guy too http://www.a2a4.com/

I would suggest you need a grade 8 bolt.

Do the restorer types not keep them ?

My fault - I should have said MINI, not mini.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - will have a look at them now.

You may well get bummed on price but unless you know exactly what you're looking for I'd be going to a dealer. Sticking up some pictures may help with finding out exactly what it is.

Also, I've bought bolts from a ford main dealer in the past (circa 2006 probably) and think I paid about £1 per bolt, which were also lower ball joint bolts.

Be careful with replacing suspension or brake bolts; many are application-specific (plain shoulder length, special underhead radius etc.) or may be hi-tensile.

OP is this what you are looking at ?

I think I'd just go to the dealer and get the proper item, lots of bolts (or should I say set screws) with special heads etc.

Almost all bolts on modern cars are high tensile, the only ones that aren't will be holding bits of trim etc. on.

That's a good rule of thumb, checking the bolt head markings will usually confirm. But generally, it's easiest just to order replacement suspension pivot or clamp bolts from the manufacturer, as they will be exactly right, saving a lot of farting about.

Go to the dealer, there are so many different material specs unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

I know they rip you off, but being a suspension component you don't want things breaking at the wrong time.
