Hello All,

Hoping for divine inspiration here. My car is still with garage that fabricated the new alternator mounting. Great job, only now the car won`t start.

There is no live to coil, fuel pump is wired to run continuously on ignition switch and that`s running, injectors are clicking in the right firing order on cranking but no dam sparks.

The YB is a switched live (on ignition) to coil and it`s just not getting there. OK so, thoughts were, looms are pretty old now, possibly a loom part burnt out. Test that theory by running a separate live feed to coil, no joy.

Any ideas?

Even if the coil was fried surely it would still have a live?

No immob as far a I'm aware.

So the car did start before ?

And you say you are getting a signal to the injectors ?

Why have you bypassed fuel pump wiring ? and live to coil ?

Yes started on the button every time.

Fuel pump has been re wired so that anti lag and/or launch control can be used on the L8 ecu (whether I will use these is debatable).

Signal definitely getting through to injectors as they click in the right order on cranking, I have asked them to remove one and also check they are squirting. Not sure they have done this yet but they are certain they are getting power.

What would the next step be?

Weird...why does the fuel pump need re-wired for that ?

If the injectors are pulsing, I guess you can assume the ecu is live, and crank/phase signal is good.

So is the coil getting a trigger ? Has some numpty unplugged the ignition amp ? Or disturbed the wiring ?
Test for an output signal from the ecu to amp.

So I`ve been told, because there is a very limited number of outputs on ECU, but what do I know......nowt!
I ordered a new ignition amplifier and that has been fitted as I thought that could be it.

I have emailed a cosworth wiring diagram over to garage and it shows a live direct from ignition switch to coil, and my car doesn`t have that. Having looked at a few westfield wiring diagrams they have that too. Has the cosworth genie nicked mine? It worked fine before???

I`m going to ask them to try and replace the yellow ecu relay as another easy solution.

Apparently the coil is now firing on alternative 12v feed so it`s not the coil at fault. Have asked them to see if the car will run briefly like that.

I wish I had a better working knowledge!

Sounds like this garage needs a better working knowledge too ! lol

Problem solved!!!

Garage had let battery run flat and had not charged, just used boost box. ECU was not seeing required voltage.

No.2 Garage, first thing they did as I wheeled the car in was put the battery on charge, next morning, car fired up first twist of the key.

Many thanks and kudos go to:

They are now fitting my ACT guage and guess who will be sorting my water injection.
