Hi guys I recentley purchased a 1969 Tvr that was going to be converted to a race car by the previous owner but ended up being left in his garage for 12 years untouched. Anyway i bought the car to put back on the road and all the bits he had collected. From the parts I would like to build a really nice crossflow engine that gives good power for the odd track day but is calm enough to drive around town with reasonable ease. The parts that came with it are as follows.

2x 711m engines both been stood for a long time and no doubt will need a full rebuild.

another 711m block that is stripped completely to a bare block.

Another block which  is an AX block bored and lined to 83.5mm, now I dont know much about  AX blocks but was told that they are very sought after. The bore on this engine looks to be in very good condition with little wear and the hone marks still visible. I have noted though that the liners are not flush with the top of the block is this how they should be?

I also got a set of Accralite 83.5 long rod pistons with GAF conrods, a GAF forged steel 12 bolt narrow journal crank and a ported head with large valves and double valve springs.Dry sump set up, vernier timing chain etc, there is also an AP Racing sintered clutch and lightened steel flywheel plus a ford type 2 Quaife 4 speed gearbox.

The gearbox is of no use to me as I will be putting in a 5 speed type 9 which also makes the clutch redundant as the splines are different..

So here is my conudrum  which block to use? the AX or have the 711m bored,  what camshaft would suit me best with the above parts fitted. Would twin 40 carbs be ok or should I go 45's.

Any help or advice would be great.

Nor sure if the sleaving ads or subtracts but AX blocks usually make £500 +
