Renault V6 to NG3 gearbox

Hi. I'm about to start rebuilding an aging Midtec Spyder which currently has a 1.6 Pinto (woohoo!) connected to a NG3 transaxle. I'd like to fit an engine that's a tad more modern with a bit more pole and was wondering if anyone knew of any easy engine swaps. One thought was whether a Renault V6 from a Laguna or Espace would be a straightforward change and whether these fitted an NG3 easily. Any other suggestions gratefully received! Cheers all.
