Is it possible to use a normal timing belt tensioner to set the tension on a Renault 1.9dci? The tools are available but at about £700 a go it's a bit steep, especially as they only seem to be needed on this engine.

If so anyone have any tension settings please?

You might be able to use a "frequency meter" APP on a smart phone is the belt tension is defined as a frequency! TBH, i have always just gone with the old "just about possible to twist belt 45deg on longest side" trick..............

Smart phone!!!!! I struggle with one with wires lol. I have done them to what I think is about right before but as Autodata (AD) stipulates a particular tension defined by a frequency I'd like to be 100% they're done right. I just can't justify £700 to do one belt every 6 months. The AD specify tension 90+-3 Hz. Any ideas on an app for a phone?

Oh my god! I just downloaded this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.... After a few tweeks to the settings I managed to get my Motorolla to register exactly 100Hz played from a youtube download. Can't wait to try it out next weekclap

Ta for the tip wink
