I've just replaced the 70A alternator in my Vitara with a 110A from a Vauxhall diesel to get extra juice for winches. The pulleys all line up, just need to make up some custom bolts and find or make a tensioner.

The stock alternator belt isn't long enough to go around the new alternator. I need the belt to be 12 - 30 mm longer. Is there some online catalogue that lists belt specifications so that I can find something that would fit?

I don't know how friendly auto stores are these days about measuring all their belts to find one that'll fit. I find they're all run by non English speakers who don't really understand that a car can be modified and require non standard parts.

The tensioner also doesn't fit any more. I can make one up, or will have a peek around ebay to see if there's any custom ones that might fit.

Most belts these days are part numbered by length. What is the part number on the old belt ?
Then add 12-30mm.

Sorted! Just ordered two; one tight and one looser to see which works best. That's an extra 40A juice I'll be getting for my winches!

Broken picture... I can't see it. If it's water cooled then won't it also be water proof for off roading? I keep wrecking my alternators.

For example if your belt is a 6 rib/groove and 1000mm long and you want an extra 15mm then look for a 6pk1015 on amazon/google/Euro Car Parts.

Yes for wading. But not sure if these 190A Mercedes alternators are water and air cooled, allowing water to get in, or fully sealed and waterproof.
