It's a 1997 Vitara, you know the original "fat boy" types. The output seal on the crankshaft, where the flywheel and clutch is, is leaking oil.

I've presently got the gearbox off to do another job, so I've got access to the seal from the outside. I'm just worried about whether I can get it off, and if I try and fail then I'm stuck!

Should be able to lever it out with a screwdriver
Tap the new one back into place using a piece of wood as a drift.

Depending on how large the seal is you could try the self tapping screw method.

IIRC you screw a couple of self tappers into the seal 180 degrees apart and give them a good tug.

This method is not reccomended for aquatic seals, the RSPCA frown upon that sort of activity laugh

Whilst you are there it might be a good idea to check that a blocked breather is not causing the seal to leak because of excess crankcase pressure.

Sealey and all the usual tool suppliers sell seal pullers, and they're very handy to have.
