I have a single cylinder mower with a 16HP Kohler engine in it.

I want to replace the magneto but I don't want to pay £70 - surely all single cylinder magnetos are essentially the same or am I over simplifying ?

You don't say what age your mower is. Is your mag like this one?

It's circa 2000 I presumed a similar sized one for a Briggs and Stratton would work they are only £9

They are both only sending a voltage for a single spark plug - in what way do they differ ?

If you know the part number there are usually pattern parts available on line, the other alternative is to have a look on US sites, they are usually a lot cheaper for spare parts.

I've googled and can't find any pattern parts.

I can import one for circa £55 (presumably plus tax) I just assumed they were all very similar.
