Sorry that's supposed to be 2ZR-FE.
Got a call from my daughter because her Corolla had developed a misfire. She checked there was a spark and that the injector was working, she also did a compression test, all cyls ok.
I took a look at the car on the weekend and was flummoxed. Everything seemed to be ok but cyl 3 was not firing.
I tool off the induction manifold and took a look at the induction valves on cyl 3 while I rotated the engine by hand. Valves were working ok.
I then did another compression test, this time with the induction manifold off I could hear a very loud "pop" but only when testing cyl 3.
I then realised that cyl 3 was compressing on every crank rotation.

I took the cam cover off and found 4 detached finger followers. One from cyl 2 inlet, one from cyl 2 exhaust and both followers from cyl 3 exhaust which explains the misfire.
I was able to retrieve all of the errant parts with a thorough search of the cam carrier and the sump.
Its all gone back together and the motor now runs sweetly.
My research suggests that these engines are in danger of throwing off the followers when revved above 7k, the limiter is set at 6.6k. I think I might be wanting a valve spring upgrade if I had an Elise powered by a 1ZR of 2ZR engine.
