Rover V8 engine age...any ideas?
Discussion
I've got a Rover V8 engine with the code 47A04702B, capacity believed to be 3.9ltrs
From reading all the Rover V8 identification charts I can get my hands on, they seem to agree it was an engine originally supplied to Morgan. Thing is, NONE of these charts have any dates on when the block was produced (its essential for an upcoming IVA test)
I've written to the Morgan factory, but as yet have had no reply.
Any ideas?
thanks
Simon

Morgan are usually very helpful. (In my experience)From reading all the Rover V8 identification charts I can get my hands on, they seem to agree it was an engine originally supplied to Morgan. Ring them and explain the situation.
Try an email to sales@vitesse-ltd.com with the info you have.
This comes from my good friend Rog Parker MGOC Tech man, I know quite a few of the 'ex' Morgan engines were sold through the MGOC, they work very well on the rolling road! The engine number did not mean anything to Rog.
"As I understand it when in the late ‘90’s Rover were not able to supply small companies like Morgan with the spec of engines they needed, which were different to the narrow spec ranges the Rover engine production line was doing for the Range Rover and Disco models, a special arrangement was developed where new one off engine specs would be built.
Now this would invariably be done by Rover partners Power Train Projects (PTP Ltd) part of the Trinity Group in Hinckley. They were the official engine supplier to Morgan, Lotus, Caterham, Westfield, Marcos and others so this involved K series and V8s. The engine build shop was at Hinckley and there was quite a focus on V8 variations until PTP closed around the time Trinity Motors went into administration around 2012.
The engine build shop I think was closed before the Administration and its manager, Tim Henderson, moved to another Land Rover engine rebuilding company until 2012 when he and others set up Vitesse Global and occupy a new industrial building on the other side to the Coventry canal from where the PTP operation used to be based, and he is the MD of Vitesse.
They are specific suppliers to Caterham, Morgan and also to Land Rover for their Classic division. I expect that Tim may well have more information on this engine and be able to confirm whether or not when he was engine shop manager that they were the builder of V8 engines for Morgan on behalf of Rover in that late period before Land Rover finished V8 production in 2002 and I understand they then became the direct supplier of V8s to Morgan.
Certainly that previous close relationship with Morgan and Land Rover clearly helped create Vitesse’s current close relationship with Morgan and Land Rover, not forgetting Mazda as they supply Mazda engines and gearboxes (even their own modified Mazda 5 speed boxes for various classic car conversions with full Mazda blessing). "
As usual a most in depth and interesting answer from Rog. I have just realised I have known Rog for 39 years! I am getting old
