Mrs Elroy has got a 2011 focus 1.6 (petrol 125bhp) with 40k miles. The car always feels very flat when accelerating from a standing start and just seems to lack power. When it went in for a service, i mentioned it and asked if it could be down to spark plugs (Beyond oil and filter i'm no engine expert). Mechanic didn't think so and told us to put some fuel additive in (I didn't even realise Redex was still a thing). Thought it was worth trying for £7 and I'll see if it does improve anything. But is there anything else that it could be

wink

From what I could see on a quick google, A focus 0-60 with 125 hp is given at ~11 seconds so it's not fast so I'm not suprised it feels a bit gutless.

Weight is given at ~1.3 tonnes ?

I have the 99hp 1.6 focus, with over 150k miles. Whilst it will not set the world on fire, it does gather up the skirts and hussle along nicely. Try using more revs, they enjoy it. Also stick a tank of V-Power in, makes no difference in the usual 2 to 4 k rev range, but I can definitely feel a difference outside of that range.

As your is the 125hp, I assume this is the one with variable valve timing, I hear this is very picky on what oil is being used.

She had the 99hp version before and it went along fairly nicely. I can only describe the feeling as similar to turbo lag. Nothing, nothing then off it goes. Other similar focus' (foci?) I've driven don't behave that way.
