Hi all,

Hoping someone can help diagnose a problem on our Clio.
2006 Clio 1.4 16v

Strange and likely unrelated(?) but seem to have noticed the issue since having all 4 tyres replaced..

1st gear pulling away judders the car.
- all other gears do not cause this issue
- including using 2nd to pull away from a standstill
- if we rev 2.5k+ rpm it generally seems to allow pulling away without this judder

Whats bugging me (aside from the issue itself) is logically i cannot figure out possibilities

1. Clutch - surely would affect all/other gears
2. Engine mounts - expect to notice at idle and/or other gears
3. Gearbox - again, would expect othet gears to have issues

Any advice appreciated.

Thank you,
Ben

Were you there when the tyres were replaced? I'm wondering whether it's been given some welly and either cooked the clutch or damaged an engine/transmission mount.

Yes luckily we were there throughout the whole time he changed the tyres. Otherwise we'd be thinking it was something he did (intentionally or not).

Are you saying you think it could be the clutch or mounts?

I've now had someone say they had a similar problem on a Clio page, they bled the clutch system and seems to have cured it.

Thanks for your reply!

Presumably unrelated to the new tyres, then. It might be clutch plate contamination, or a broken finger on the pressure plate. If it is intermittent, it might be simple wear and tear on the clutch bearings.

So how long/many miles ago did you have the tyres changed?

What tyres have you had fitted?

Did it start immediately?

Is it getting any better/worse?

Tyres were changed last weekend 3rd march iirc.

I asked for mid range - Can't remember the brand specifically though.

Didn't start immediately as far as i remember.

Is it getting any better/worse? Worse I'd say UNLESS we prevent it by holding revs in 1st gear 2.5k+

I drove a stop start journey from the garage with no judders because I was holding high revs to pull away.

We do have slight play in o/s/f track rod end though. Getting this sorted this week.

Thanks again for replies

Sounds like possibly a missfire to me, although I would be expecting to see the EML light come on, does it definitely work, as in can you see it come on when you turn the ignition on before starting the car?
