I've never seen the inside of my turbo look this brown before:



Normally it's black with light grey areas but I have improved it's oil consumption since I last looked with a rebuilt turbo.

CO reading at the MOT was high (0.357 fast idle) and lambda was 1.025

I suspect a slight leak between turbo and downpipe and will replace the lambda sensor as it's probably the original one and has done 130k now.

Is this colour anything to be concerned about or just symptomatic of those sorts of emission readings? Or do I just need to drive the car harder?!

It's whatever fuel additives you are using.

Ok, that would make sense as I'm using Miller's Ecomax added to supermarket fuel whenever I'm not using V-Power.

I'm amazed it makes enough of a difference at 1ml per litre to do that, but at least I know it's doing something even if it's just turning the turbo an attractive shade of red/brown biggrin
