ECU light on. Engine running rough
Discussion
Hiya
Advice please
I started my car (polo 9n 1.2 12v) and as I accelerate the revs ain't going up. The ECU light was on and petrol smell from middle underside of the engine with slight smoke. This has now stopped and the light is off but driving is like the car is in limp mode.
Any help on what this could be please
Thanks in advance

The light is a clue...scan for codes to enlighten you of that clue.
Could be anything from as simple as needing new spark plugs or coils...to the end of the world. But probably somewhere in between
And the code may not be the actual answer...just a clue.
Its annoying as I had it hooked up and checked last week for codes etc and there were none. The light isn't on anymore either. The only experience I have had with this previously was on my old polo and that was spark plugs, coil and leads. Iv got full service history and the spark plugs haven't long been done. I had a new spring and ball joint on it last week. Thought I had put an end to spending out for a little while. If it is in a limp mode, there will be codes.
If the fault is there all the time....even regardless of whether you can access codes, at least that will make it easier to diagnose than an intermittent fault which can be a nightmare.
And also regardless of codes, there will be various sensor data to assist with diagnosis which with a permanent fault, such information will be invaluable.
