Fiat Bravo 1.4 Engine Management Light
Discussion
The response from Fiat implies you have the engine fault light on without any fault codes from the ECU, which would be extraordinary. A wiring fault or hardware failure within the ECU might account for that but both seem like a real stretch and hardly likely to coincide with stalling the engine.
If the choices are to make the lamp go out or scrap the car, you might consider a fairly direct approach to the first option.

If it is running with no issues then it must be a pretty minor issue. How did it get on a the MOT with regards to emissions?
I find it very hard to believe that there are no stored codes if the EML is on.
My guess would be something along the lines of Lambda sensor or running slightly lean due to unmetered air getting in through a perished pipe.
Have you tried taking it out for an hour long drive on the motorway and giving it a damn good thrashing? At 42k miles in 11 years I am guessing the poor thing rarely gets up to temperature or above 2500RPM?

I didn't know Fiat Bravos had a bathroom. Anyway, low battery voltage can bring the engine check light on and it can take ages to go back out. Happened on my Focus and even after charging it the light didn't go out for about 2 months. But a code should always show up. Most cars have some sort of procedure you can do with the key or buttons on the dash to bring basic codes up. Have a google.

I don't think an eml in itself is an mot fail, can we have the full story please?
Yes the full story is that the new laws that apply to MOT testing include the engine management light turning off when the car is started. If you are really insistent that there is some other issue, your right, the CV boot needs replacing. Hope that helps

I will suggest giving it a good rag as you are correct; it usually does short trips to the train station, supermarket etc. Good point! I find it very hard to believe that there are no stored codes if the EML is on.

R.E emissions, there is no comment on the app I look at. I haven't actually seen the report she just told me about this today when I had to take her to the dealership. It just says EML inoperative or indicative of malfunction and CV boot needs replacing. Will it help if I take a look and let you know or can we take it that it means that emissions were ok?

Has someone tried something so simple as removing the battery for half hour? If that doesn't work, take the bulb out.
And with the bulb out, it will still fail a legit MOT.Have someone who isnt a moron scan it for fault codes. It is virtually impossible that the light is on, and there be no codes present unless some wiring has shorted out.

Ben9999 is correct. It came into place after may 2018 https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Try putting a fuel additive into your car and give it a good drive. If that doesn’t work
try a local garage and hook it up to there scan diagnostic equipment. If that doesn’t flag anything up then surely it must be a fault within the ECU?

Ben9999 is correct. It came into place after may 2018 I stand corrected.
