A month ago I bought a 2014 MINI Cooper D which had covered 37K miles and has a full main dealer history. It was a private sale.

I've done 2K miles in the last month and over the past week the car has been popping out of first gear. At first I thought it was user error, having not put it in gear properly, but it appears not. The gearbox is also noticably whining in first and second gear.

I've found a lot of people with same issue when searching the MINI forums, resulting in new gear boxes and clutches.

The problem is mine's no longer under warranty and since it was bought privately, I've no recourse. I can't imagine MINI will want to know.

So what do you reckon? Get shut and PX against something else? I'd imagine if the gearbox gives up I'll be looking at a £1K bill.

As above check oil but if it's poping and whining already it may be two late. Could be diff or syncos or many other parts after heating up due to low oil. If it's a common problem id not stick a scrappy one in I'd rebuild it but that's very expensive

Thanks. Will get it booked in at an independant for a gearbox oil change in the coming weeks.

Failing that, back to the main dealer for a fault diagnosis and hopefully some goodwill assuming they find the fault.
