Ford Focus losing power

Hi for the past couple of weeks my 06 Ford Focus has been losing power, stuttering and idle is all over the place. Doesn’t matter if I’m in traffic or doing 40, doesn’t happen all the time some days worse than others. Also using a lot more petrol than I normally would. Just wondering if anyone’s had the same problem and I could do some things myself before being stung at a garage? Thanks ant
