Hi All, thanks for reading. So my girlfriends 2008 Mondeo started with a dash light which quickly progressed to engine fault message. We took to trusted garage and he said the DPF filter is blocked. He tried a static regeneration and a chemical clean and got her back on the road. He made the point that he wasn't sure if he found the cause and it could come back. He also said the computer said the first static regeneration failed and the second static regeneration only partially completed. He said he took her on the motorway and gave her a burn and all was fine for now. He was very honest that there were a few things wrong and it could come back. He said he also changed a throttle valve control solenoid as this might have been a related issue?

Sure enough sods-law about 30 minutes back on the road she got the engine light quickly followed by engine fault message. We are going back in the morning to have the codes read again and this time to discuss a new DPF.

My questions are as follows. He said some people can get stuck in a loop where if the original problem causing the blockage isn't fixed a new DPF could end up in the same state as the old one. How true is this? It has obviously worried us.

Also generic new DPF is £280 ish quoted fitted and Ford one is £680. Ive read some nasty stories on online about generic ones dying a few weeks after fitting? I'm happy to go with Ford one unless other people think generic is ok?

Any other experiences from people on here regarding DPFs and hard to diagnose blockages. The car has done 213k, we cannot get finance to get a new car so scrapping is not an option. Its just has a new cambelt and service and is great in every other way apart from needing a new starter motor and battery which we are holding off doing until this DPF issue is solved. We are now aware removing the DPF fails the MOT so wouldn't do this.

Its dragged on a bit now as he took a good few days to do 2 static regenerations, the chemical clean and the motorway drive, so we are just worried this is going to turn into one of those nightmares that drags on and on. I'm happy to just get a new DPF if people think this would extend the life of the car another 50k miles at least?

Help thank you.

remove the dpf and wash it is an option. What is causing it to block needs investing, maybe fault read for start.

Is the light/problem actually effecting performance/driving ?

Exactly what codes is it giving ?

Codes are
P2453-00 Diesal particulate filter differential pressure sensor circuit range / performance
P02E1-72 Diesal intake air flow control performance
P2463-00 Diesal particulate filter soot accumulation
P242F-00 Diesal particulate filter restriction ash accumulation
P244B-00 Diesel particulate filter differential pressure too high

These have a injector in the dpf that fires in diesel to clean the dpf.

They get blocked which stops the regen and then in turn blocks the dpf.

Not saying that's what this is but its very common on the 2.0 diesel and anyone who knows them will be able to pick up on it.

yes Fords description is "fuel vaporiser" rather than injector, but it is a very common fault.
