Kia Rio 2013 automatic issue
Discussion
Hi, My Partner has a 2013 Kia Rio with Automatic transmission. Intermittently, usually when performing a three point turn she will shift into reverse and the gear does not engage (just revs), reverse will then not work until the car is switched off and restarted. The car then works fine. I believe the issue has also appeared when selecting first from reverse.
I have checked the ATF and it appears to be slightly overfilled, the colour is more brown than red. I looked at the service schedule the ATF is not listed as something that needs to be replaced at any point (it just notes they should check the fluid at each service) Is it right that it is not scheduled to be replaced within the first 5 years?
It is still within warranty, however she uses the car everyday to get to work and cant get to a dealer in time currently so just want some advice in case it is something serious that needs attending to immediately.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Default reply for anything related to shifting on an auto is normally do an oil & filter change on the 'box before anything & then see what it does.
I don't know if there are any issues with your 'box particularly but especially with years/miles under its belt it is worth a punt.
Cheers. Is changing the fluid something a novice can do or best to leave to professionals?I don't know if there are any issues with your 'box particularly but especially with years/miles under its belt it is worth a punt.
These transmissions are usually very reliable, I've got a ceed diesel with basically the same box and there is no oil change interval listed.
I changed the oil in mine at 130k but the box was still working fine, you need to get this to the dealers as there will be a transmission fault code which will give some idea of what's wrong.

Car only has 51,000km on it (I am in Aus). It's a 4 speed auto. I changed the oil in mine at 130k but the box was still working fine, you need to get this to the dealers as there will be a transmission fault code which will give some idea of what's wrong.
Will have to try and get to a dealers at the weekend.
