The engine with diesel pump i have fitted could have been standing in a breakers yard for months or years
I started the engine today for the first time and the diesel pump leaked roughly 4 tablespoons of fuel onto the floor, when taking a look at the pump the leak seemed to be from the top of the pump near to the throttle spindle

There was no coolant in the engine for this initial 15 seconds test run

I have since dried off the pump with an airline and filled the cooling system

There is now no diesel leaking from the pump, the engine was left running for 2 hours

Is there a possibility that a seal or diaphragm needed the diesel fuel to lubricate it?

I have also noticed a very small ammount of air in the diesel pipe that comes from the filter housing and goes to the diesel pump, any ideas what is likely to be causing this, I am clueless on this fault as I would expect a diesel leak if there is a little air getting into the system
The one thing I know of that may be of help is that the diesel fuel filter housing was empty before me priming the system with its hand pump
Could there be trapped air in the filter housing and it will slowly escape through the diesel pump?

Thank you in advance

This will be a Bosch pump no doubt scratchchin and that top O ring style seal can be changed with the pump in situ , your leak may reoccur as is just keep an eye out before acting with a new seal , it wont become a gusher or cause the car to stop anyhow

Yes it is a Bosch pump. Thank you for the information, I will keep checking it
This is good news that work can be carried out on the pump without removing it, I was dreading having to remove the pump

Would you happen to have a picture of the pump showing where the O ring is fitted?
