I have a 2.5 x type which is only ever used on weekends these days but I have a slight problem with it. The engine warning light is on and when scanned comes up with p1646 and p1647 codes. These I believe show both upstream o2 sensors to be faulty? Now what are the odds on both sensors failing at the same time? Or could it be something else possibly an air leak?
You could check their readings to see whether they are responding at all. If they are pegged rich or lean, you can compare their readings against the downstream sensors to validate that. If you aren't equipped to do that, since they aren't especially expensive, you might just try replacing one and see if that fault clears. If it does, do the same on the other side. If not, you now have a spare.
See what access you have and get the right spanner. That will probably be either a box spanner big enough for the connector to go through, or a slotted box spanner. Plenty of penetrating oil and time for that to work also helps. Remember anti-seize on the new sensors - future you will appreciate it next time.
Be aware that the X-type's upstream sensors are a different type to the donwnstream ones and not interchangable with them. The upstream ones are wideband which means they are fast acting and work in a different way to the standard ones used in he downstream position. Some eBay selllers selling universal standard sensors claim they can be used on the Jaguar in the upstream position which is incorrect. I learned all this the hard way
