Mercedes 3.2 engine into VW T25 crew cab
Discussion
Hi all, i have a plan and not much else.
I was going to scrap our mercedes clk 320 due to a few issues with it but the engine i known to be good. its 218 bhp and 300 odd nm torque. so i know the engine can fit as the pickup has loads of room. the gearbox can handle 200 bhp according to other forums.
Problem is its an auto. it has power steering and air con powered off it so maybe needs a custom timing belt if one can be made? the engine management could be handled by the Emerald K6. any thoughts ? if i can't get a custom timing belt i could rig up pulleys instead of the power steering and air con pulleys ?
Then its a custom engine adaptor plate.
thanks all

There is no cam belt on those its a chain. Ribbed belts are available in various lenghts and numbers of rib. Find the type number of the standard belt just say its 6pk2380 then you work out the length of belt you need with a bit of string or wire looped round the pulleys tight missing out the pas and ac say your string says you need 1820mm then you are looking to order a 6pk1820 belt. The first number is the number of v ribs, letters are rib pitch, third no is length in mm.
Emerald wouldnt work without a lot of f
king about, its an electronic auto and the gearbox relies on canbus data from engine and abs ecus. Go manual or you will need to swap a lot of the loom over and program out immo etc.
Can the k6 control a fully dbw throttle? If not you will need to do some fab work to convert it to a cable.

ideal , thanks for the info. i am not a mechanic so this helps lots.
so the belt /chain can be sorted.
can the engine be used with a manual box ? removing the torque converter?
i will ask them about the throttle ... They said i will need a trigger fitting to the crank i think it was then would need that rebalancing

Merc have certainly used it with manual boxes, so shouldn't be hard to swap the flex plate and TC for a flywheel and clutch. As for the PAS and aircon compressor, why not fit a PAS rack? RHD ones are scarce and expensive, but they are out there. LHD are common enough. Our Club Joker has PAS, and having driven a panel-conversion without, it's certainly worth having. Aircon wouldn't be hard - there's all the bits out there...

Is anyone taking into consideration what the two vehicles are?
Merc is an inline upright front engined RWD car, VW is rear engined boxer. How will one fit in the other?
Diesel T25s used the same straight four as Mk2 Golfs. Golf GTi engine swaps are common, as are 1.9 diesels. Bigger stuff goes in routinely, too.Merc is an inline upright front engined RWD car, VW is rear engined boxer. How will one fit in the other?
There's no rocket science here.

In terms of gearboxes I would imagine the options to be limited to either the original, or a Porsche box.

THANK YOUUUU thats what i wanted to know. Im ok without the power steering as its just more pipes and things i can brake haha. As for the PAS and aircon compressor, why not fit a PAS rack? my last T25 had a golf 13 inch steering wheel and 8j wheels so deffo saved me time at the gym

Ok, so the engine could fit in, but what about a gearbox?
The Auto V6 and Cosworth 2.9 have all been fitted up to the original gearboxes . Theres a V8 on youtube aswell. at most i will have to cut out the rear valance and modify it. having said that i will see about the flipped audi A3 box aswell before mating this 3.2 up to the existing box. Thanks all. loads of planning going on.

The merc straight 6 is pretty long. Is there really that much space in the back of a T25?

im more than likely going to use an Audi box flipped so it goes the right way but need more info on the linkage. i believe they use a cable shifter In terms of gearboxes I would imagine the options to be limited to either the original, or a Porsche box.
