Qashqai Smoke

Why would my 1.5 DCI qashqai start smoking.

I notice black smoke when accelerating, yet economy and performance has gone up???

I had a split in a hose once which caused black smoke, but that was accompanied with a noise and less power.

I have checked for split or lose hoses, and can't find anything wrong.

What could it be, EGR, MAF, Intercooler?

Black smoke in a diesel means it is over-fuelling, which is probably why you feel more power, it is not good in the long run & could be due to injectors or a few other things.

You need to get it checked out.

Thanks, yes that's what I thought, but why on earth would start over fuel?

Could also be a small split in a hose - I had this without loss of power.

I was half tempted to leave it - knowing that I could lay down a smokescreen worthy of a WW2 destroyer if someone sat on my back bumper.
