Hi,

sorry if this is posted in the wrong section but this area seemed to be the correct place.

I have an issue with my car and need some advise.

My beloved car is a seat Leon FR 2.0TDI (170 cr version) well to get to the point I am due for my MOT back end of Jan. Looking around my car I cant see or feel much reason it should fail its a well looked after and in good nick however i do have some corrosion on the silencer, i think this might fail it.

For a wile now i have been thinking of doing a few mild mods and a remap, i wonder if it is worth/advisable to get a new exhaust tip and get rid of the silencer. This can be quite cost effective and give the car a better sound (i dont want it 2 loud but a bit more umph under acceleration would be nice)

would doing this be a likely fail regardless? with the new MOT laws around diesels am i likely to have issues?

I am just trying to avoid paying someone to fix the exhaust to get it though the MOT just to pay again later modding.

suggestions, advise and feedback would be fantastic if anybody knows a place that could do this for me (west yorkshire area, UK)

If it isn't blowing it won't fail.
If it is replace it with another, it's as simple as that.
No-one wants to hear a loud diesel, they sound st and you'll look like a nob.

Diesels really do sound st, although removing only 1 box probably wont make that much difference if there are others. Although DPF and cat probably kill a lot of noise anyway

And legally, there must be at least one silencer.

There are other issues around altering exhausts, but rarely enforced.

Thanks for advice.

Just to add i don't want it "loud" but a little more presence on the country roads when I am having fun would be nice. Could removing the back box really make it that loud. I don't want it silly just some low-end when I put my foot down.

Also I have heard a few of the golfs/Audi's with same engine as mine with exhaust mods and they can sound nice as long as they don't over do it so I believe the sounding st part is more an opinion but thanks anyway.

As already said, if the DPF and cat are still in place removing the rear box probably wont make much difference to noise.

But legally and for MOT there must be at least 1 silencer on the vehicle. So if the rear one is the only one on the car, then legally you should not remove it.
