Hi

My wife's 2008 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 petrol 95,000miles has started making a tapping sound, the car drives fine, the oil and filter are fine I used 5w40 Magnatec.

Does anyone know what the tapping is?

That sounds too heavy to be the valve train and is suspiciously like a bearing on the way out. The recording made it sound like an intermittent noise, though, which is strange and might point to a thrust bearing rather than a big end. Does the noise change when you press on the clutch pedal?

The light clattering sound I believe is the timing chain, it's the more distinct tapping noise I'm worried about as it never used to do it before.
However I will check the thrust bearing.

Its always difficult when 2 noises are happening.

1 is definitely timing chain/rattle type.

The other is possibly related, possibly not. It sounds like a bearing, but whichn1. It could be water pump, especially if louder at the wheel end of the engine.

Remove auxilliary belt and run engine briefly. Does that noise dissappear.

Is oil level ok, if it has gone too low, too often, it could well be an engine bearing noise. Try to isolate it
