Hi I have a Golf MK4 2003 tdi with an atd pd engine with 160k miles. I just wanted to share my experience with the car and also try and find an answer to a problem I have with it.

I took ownership of the car in 2016. The car has full service history and is all standard. The 1st thing i did was a full service myslef all filters and an oil change using 505.01 oil. Then i had the tyres replaced. The clutch started to slip so i had it replaced along with a solid flywheel conversion from ecp as it only cost 130 quid. Next job was new brake discs and pads all round. Bloody bangermonics. I paid 1000 quid for the car and i have already nearly paid that in parts and labour! But i would rather do this than have a car on pcp (done this for past 10 years) as i enjoy diy mechanics and keeping old cars going. My previous car was a seat leon 2013 on pcp and to be honest i dont miss it at all. In fact i prefer the golf, my dpf, no inspection at the end of the term, no need to worry about parking dents.

Next job was solving a noise from the suspension on front. It is like a creaking sound that is heard when driving over a speed bump at very low speed. I have had the lower arms and drop links replaced as they had slight play. Also the ball joints were replaced. The anti roll bar bushes seem ok but the noise persists. Any ideas? There is no noise fron the cv joints on full lock. The top mounts seem ok. No broken springs. Maybe it could be the arb bushes? I cant think of anything else

I would put my bet on the ARB bushes. When dry they love to creak even when they look good visually. As you love working on cars for a sake of a couple of quid it’s easy and cheap.
