TPS for an LS1
Discussion
Hi
Have a customers car (Ultima) with an LS1 engine but has a collection of odd bits one of which is (I believe) an LS6 inlet.
Net result is I am not sure what the throttle body is and none of the numbers vibro etched on it come back in a google search.
As near as I can tell LS1 & 6 normally have the same throttle body. This one is 76mm ID, 3 bolt fixing and cable operated.
It came to us with a TPS fitted which features a 6 pin oblong lozenge shape connector but it is only wired to 3 pins. This is plainly the wrong item as its direction of rotation is the opposite of the throttle body resulting in its innards now being FUBAR.
I have had the engine running by fitting a variable resistor in place of the TPS so for now the electricary seem happy.
Can anyone point me at some part numbers as my searching so far has not found anything conclusive. They are a little too expensive to 'get one in to try'.
Many thanks
Steve

Ls1 is camaro 'F' body and cable operated. Ls6 is vette 'Y' body and fly by wire. Ls6 has a flat floor intake plenum. ls1 is convex underneath. You only need 3 wires for a tps so not quite sure what you have there? TB should be 3 bolt. I have a cable throttle body on the shelf, not sure if it has the tps but shall look at it tomorrow.
The body is vibro etched with these numbers. 001818A on one flange. 00025 & 0180 A2 on the opposite flange. It also has AC cast into it so not aftermarket.

Shows the existing (but wrong) TPS

I'm pretty sure the correct TPS look very similar in the body but has a round 3 pin connector.
As a bit more background the car came to us part built with the engine sitting in place. The throttle body came with the TPS fitted and a 'pig tail' of connector and wires. We also had an aftermarket engine loom. and, later on, an ECU. We then wired it all. The engine ran (after much effort) but was throwing TPS codes which was when I dismantled the TPS to find it was the wrong direction of rotation. The only reason the throttle opened was because the inner plastic potentiometer wiper that fits on the 'D' of the spindle was split and allowing the shaft to rotate within it.
Steve
PS Why are TPS so expensive. I've just bought a temperature controller on ebay. It comes with a temp probe, a digital display, you program it to a temp, it switches a relay for something like cooling fans. All for a quid delivered from China.

^^ it could but it looks like 6 pins so possibly 2 x 3 wire TPSs for drive by wire (second tps for error comparison)
OP .. have you run your DVM across the pins to see what's going on? You might be able to pick up 3 pins and use these for your tps position.
Yes the 6 pins are two tracks which I believe is what the fly by wire TB uses.OP .. have you run your DVM across the pins to see what's going on? You might be able to pick up 3 pins and use these for your tps position.
No point testing the track as the plastic mouldings form limit stops which in turn determine the direction of rotation. For now I have a variable resistor wired in and adjusted so the ECU is happy thinking the throttle is closed. from that it goes into idle mode and brings the revs down using the idle valve (above the TPS in my photos).
When I was trying to identify the TB and from there determine the correct TPS I was seeing TPS for sale in the £60-70 region but this morning found one for £17 so bought it. Has to be worth a chance compared to blowing the customers time at an hourly rate.

You've answered alreadyAn OEM specific part...vs China crap.
