Past few days I've had two issues with my Toyota petrol. It's a 06 model.

Firstly it is taking a long time to start when engine is cold, but when warmed up it starts like normal.

Secondly is a knocking noise. The noise seems more prominent from the passenger footwell, the noise gets faster as I rev the engine.

I thought exhaust was loose and knocking but had it checked and it's apparently not that.

Anyone have any ideas?

Knocking noises at engine speed suggest something is failing within the engine. If the noise is not too dramatic, you should be OK to drive to a local garage for a quick diagnosis.

Not what I needed to hear but if that's the case then that's the case.

Mechanic is going to take a look at it Thursday, im leaving it with him for the day.

I will genuinely be sad to see the back of this car. No idea what I would replace it with.

Still struggling with this. The starting issue getting worse. Going to check spark plugs tomorrow. Had the computer scanned only faults are stored faults from O2 sensors which are intermittent.

The rattle or knocking now seems to go away when warmed up, but you hear it bad on come start.

Dunno what to do next

A well looked after diesel Avensis will be a very good reliable car. ( Although a well looked after petrol one should be too )

Or most Volvos are hard to beat.

Pay to get it fixed, or sell at a reduced price and buy a replacement, or live with it until it dies. Your choice of inconvenience versus spending money.
