Car shaking on cold start for 5 seconds and transmission!!
Discussion
Hello everyone,
I have purchased a 325D E90 LCI and it has been a nightmare. I used to have a 320D LCI and that had no issues whatsoever. Anyway i'll get straight to it, my car starts to shake for roughly 5 seconds every morning and then stabilizes thereafter and can start it again without any shaking or anything. Now my mechanic said the glow plugs will need changing as well as the glow plug relay (looks like a little black box) having done this there is still shaking going on. I used NGK glow plugs and a beru glow plug relay. The codes that were read prior to the change were glow plugs 1, 3 and 5 as faulty and now all of them came up as faulty! My mechanic said the glow plug relay is bad and will need swapping again but i'm starting to be a bit skeptical. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on how to fix it?
Also, my transmission or at least I think it is the transmission is acting up. Out of the blue, if I put my foot down the car just jerks and wont shift to the next gear? I have to put it into DS and then D again for it to shift. I took it to a specialist garage and they said that the rear differential is receiving spikes of torques at random times but could not find any issues with the transmission. I can't remember the code that came up but youtube videos suggested there was a crack on the seal where the trans sump is. I've been advised to do an oil swap for the transmission but I don't want to waste anymore money on the car if it does not fix it.

If u had three dodgy glow plugs listed and now all of them then I would suggest you have not connected something or the relay/black box is defective - it’s not hard to test to see if it’s giving output to each glow plug though.
We’re the glow plugs same length as old ones?
Tubes inside the transmission can split, but surely it’s best to just get the oil level checked first ?

Hi Elliot, thanks for getting back! my mechanic says 100% the box is defective but i'm just thinking how can it be if I bought it new from eurocarparts? something new should surely not be defective or am I just wrong about that possibility? yeah they were pretty much identical, only difference is I now have NGK which the mechanic also recommended instead of Bosch. How can I test the glow plugs? will it involve removing the intake manifold? We’re the glow plugs same length as old ones?

It's entirely possible for new parts to be faulty out of the box or fail quickly in use. If it's confirmed faulty I'd expect ECP to take it back.Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
