Renault Modus automatic gearbox problems

Recently had a Renault Modus 1.5 DCI Automatic. Alright at first then would not start after going in a shop and coming back etc. I had two AA call outs; once it I had been waiting an hour by then and it started as soon as AA arrived, maddening! Next time no joy getting it going so was towed to gararge. Garage not automatic gear box specialists but discovered not an Immobiliser problem. Eventually thought it was a AUTOMATIC GEARBOX ENGINE MANGEMENT SYSTEM PROBLEM. I have it back now and am hoping someone out there who has had a similar problem can tell me how they resolved it and at what the cost was.

The other issue with it is that it sometimes . out of Automatic drive into normal drive especially when slowing down. This is unpredictable/intermittent problem. When the car wont start at all there is no sound from the engine or click etc,.

You don't say what year your car is. If it is one of the ones closer to 2004 then it will probably be better to scrap the car as Renault had a horrendous kwality era back then.
Have a look at fedauto.co.uk (use the red tab) and find an automatic transmission specialist. My Dad used someone listed on fedauto (King Automatics in Surrey) and they repaired his Mercedes automatic gearbox for £1,300 whereas Mercedes would only swap in a new gearbox for £5,000.

We have exactly the same with an 09 1.5 dci semi auto.with

Same conditions. turn ignition everything ok including immobilizer. turn the key for starting and no sound, nothing, not even a relay.
hired a trailer and took it to a Renault dealer for the £108 diagnosis. When we arrived I just happened to try the ignition and it started after 6 weeks of nothing. Diagnosis found no codes relating to non starting.
I suspect the actual ignition switch or the starter solenoid.
If it happenes again I will be pulling the steering shell off and metering the keyswitch.
