Help please - Mercedes steering
Discussion
Evening all. On two occasions now, the steering on my 2013 c class has frozen when I’ve returned to the car. To describe, it’s not as if the power steering has failed as that would be driveable to some extent, this is not. The steering has a tiny bit of give in it, doesn’t appear to be totally locked but definitely not driveable. Cars moves back and forwards ok. Annoyingly, both times the RAC were called and when they arrived, of course the car was back to normal! They recovered it today and it’s now at the dealer. With it being an intermittent issue (and not present when it was dropped off), it worried that the dealer may draw a blank. Any ideas as to what this issue may be? Many thanks in advance.
Thanks all. The car is back and the spiel from MB is that they checked everything over hardware wise and everything looked OK. They completed a software update which was the "fix" and the bill was the pre-agreed £100 quid for up to an hour of work.
Mixed feelings on this because I asked why the software updates weren't done as part of normal servicing, apparently this one is only administered in the event of a car exhibiting certain symptoms/failures. Considering instant steering failure could result in a serious accident it doesn't quite sit right with me that this update isn't done across the board, either as a recall or at least as part of the service procedure.
Anyway, all is well that ends well as it seems OK so far and 100 quid is a much better outcome than it could have potentially been!
