Inlet manifold. Astra 1.9 cdti
Discussion
Hi guys,
I’ve got an issue regarding my Astra.
Early last week I noticed a lag in power up until about 2,000 rpm and also a cloud of smoke every time I accelerated fairly hard.
After browsing the forums it looked pretty clear that the EGR valve was the cause.
I took it to the garage and asked them to see if they could find the problem and a couple of hours later they rang me and said the EGR valve looks fairly new and it’s not the issue but after running diagnostics testing they told me the inlet manifold and swirl flaps were knackered so I told them to go ahead and fix it.
I’ve gotten the car back this afternoon and the problem still hasn’t gone away, it’s as if nothing has changed.
I’m now north of £500 worse off with the same problem I had last week.
Where do I stand with this as I feel totally robbed, do i go back to the garage and make a scene and does anybody have any real ideas as to what the problem could be?
Many thanks.

Could be many things, problem with this is they are often very difficult to diagnose.
Swirl flaps are a common fault on most engines that use them.....although I wouldnt necessarily be convinced it would have given your symptoms anyway, as more often than not you could run for 100k with them not working and not know any different.
So their diagnosis if that was their diagnosis of your problem....should have been a very cautious one to start with.
And just because something appears new...doesnt mean it cannot be faulty or have been damaged by whoever fitted it or similar. Or it could be some crappy non genuine part of which many just dont last long at all etc etc
Without driving the car and inspecting, and viewing data from relevant sensors.....no way to diagnose that remotely.
