Focus Mk 3 1.6 petrol large knocking noise.
Discussion
Hi all. Im hoping for some advice.
My wife was driving her car the yesterday she pulled off in first gear. large click sound and then a knocking sound started. She stoped and was unable to disengage gear. Had to stall car. Now the sound is constant until the clutch is depressed when it stops. Sound restarts when dissengaged.

If you can select gears (and neutral) with the engine off, I suspect the clutch release mechanism may have failed. That could be a failed release bearing, broken / worn release arm.
If the gear lever is completely ineffective, maybe the linkage has disconnected. That doesn't explain the knocking sounds.
If the gear level feels the same as normal but still transmits drive when it is in neutral, you may have broken a selector fork.
