Grand Cherokee 2.7 Idle surge black smoke

Hi

My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD auto (merc engine) idle surges in reverse and pumps out black smoke. Emissions are good in drive under power etc. The EGR has been removed cleaned checked for operation and works fine. I have checked DTC's over last few weeks and seen various ones crop up. Water temp sensor, MAF sensor (checked live data and seems fine) & EGR open circuit. The only constant is idle surge & smoking when warm & when reverse is selected?

Any ideas?

Well if you're getting lots of errors codes...clearly they or something else is not fine.

So find out why these codes are cropping up.
