While I see what the waiting list is like to book it in; bit of advice from PH is always welcome.

2017 Audi S5
28000 miles. Serviced

Last two mornings arrived at work with the water temp up, fans going full chat, but oil temp lower than normal by 20 degrees.

It’s only a short drive and driven gently due to traffic mostly.

Been rock solid for 2 1/2 years until this week, even driven hard in France with ambient temps around 40 degrees.

Oddly, didn’t do it on the way home yesterday.

Anyone got any thoughts, please? Ta.

Does it have an oil cooler with a stat?

I think it has a separate oil cooler, but not sure if it has its own stat.

What's odd is that it didn't do it at lunchtime, nor on the way home; both times the oil temp got up to high 80s, instead of the low 60s when fans running this morning. Water temp solid at 90, no fans.

How or where are you monitoring temperatures ?

OEM dash gauges are rarely accurate.

Although behaviour should be consistent over time.

Dash. Agree they're not to be taken as absolute numbers, but variation recently IS significantly different.

Water temp graduated "blocks", but has never moved above 90 in previous 2.5 years. First block above 90 filled only these two mornings.

Never heard the fans running ever before, again only these two mornings - could be heard at 30mph over / background to radio on low.

Oil temp is a value, and usually gets to about 80ish on journey in, these two times, only 60ish.

Get a proper diagnostic tool and see what temperature readings it is seeing, and see if there is any other odd sensor data in there.

On Vw's at least it would only ever go above 90c on the dash when the actual temperature was over 104c

You need to check with a diagnostic tool.
Or better yet go to a qualified mechanical professional to investigate.
