Audi A4 non turbo 2.0l petrol ,, tried to change the belt yesterday, but , after a life on salty Scottish roads ...I failed. basically the bumber needs to come off and the front end kind of unhooks and moves forward about 6 inches so you can do the job. But ,,,the bumper is held amonsgst othr things , by two blind bolts accesible only through a 10mm hole in the upper surface ofthe bumper under the bonnet... There's no way to get to them, other than to remove them with a long ( foot long ) torx T-handle. problem is , the heads of these two fasteners are completely kackered ....basically they are dust. There doesn't seem to me to be a way to get the bumper off now without destroying it? BUT ...I did manage to get the belt upper cover off, and considring that the belt was , I thought, massively over it's interval ( in there for 80k !) I was surprised by the nick of it ...that' doesn't look like an old worn , tired belt ..does it?

FYI if there is no contamination of the belt they only look worn when they go!

If it has been there for 80K do it!

Unless that's your Tippex then the belt has been changed at least once.

This, although there seems to be at least 3 tippex marks on the cam sprocket, which seems confusing.

Get it changed, you can't tell how worn it is from those photos. They develop cracks on the inside which grow, join up and kerpow belt snaps.

What's happened to the two long bolt heads, they're protected from road salt aren't they covered up normally? Are you using the right tools?

If they're like the two long ones on the left you really need the right bit to prevent them from just rounding off inside.

Is it possible they are dirty rather than turned to dust? It's normal to need to clean the heads out to get full engagement of the bit.

Are you sure the fasteners are not spline drive as opposed to torx?
