Hi,

Can anyone recommend a reputable garage in the SW/Swindon area that will recondition/remanufacture my 2015 Ford SMax 2.0 TDi engine? Engine was filled with too much oil, and is now sat in a garage not working (beyond fixing). Heard many nightmare stories about dodgy garages taking the car away then ramping up the costs. Thanks Mark

Have a look at the www.fer.co.uk website for reconditioners in your area.

you don't say what damage is done but assuming it's significant I'd have thought it would be cheaper and simpler to get a complete used engine. Looks like several low mileage options on ebay around 1k-won't need much engine work to get to that price.

Probably would....but still needs a trustworthy/competent garage. And they do seem so hard to find, likewise with those sellers selling engines.

Although I'd think it'd have needed some huge overfill to cause such damage it was scrap....be interesting to know what happened.

Agree.

overfilling with oil is not normally an engine killer.

What is/was the actual reason/fault ? Engine raced away after oil fed into turbo? Another engine if so.

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry I should’ve been clearer. Yes the engine ran away and made a god awful noise (wife driving it on own at the time). I have not been told what damage has been done, only that they cannot get it to run. I understand overfilling can cause same damage as running engine w/o oil - catastrophic failure. And also pistons hit the higher level of oil at speed which is effectively like it hitting a solid since the oil compressed.

Having chosen to avoid the London/Birmingham-type garages who’ll fit a 2nd hand engine for c.£2k (“costs might go up once we take it to pieces”!!), I’m going for a reconditioned one through a garage I trust. Cheers, M

Chances are the injector tips will be burnt if it’s run on so finding a complete motor is going to be cheaper

Honestly just buy a used engine on Ebay.
Duno why you ask for advice then don't take it.

he didnt ask for advice, he asked where to get the work done. Which is a perfectly reasonable question, and his concerns are very valid.

However....a recon engine is just that, an engine. Not the ancillaries or injectors etc. Which is why it too is often not the ideal choice in such a scenario, as there are still multiple items that may also need repaired and replaced anyway and failure to do so could once again lead to engine failure.

Buying a known good engine complete, IS a more sensible option.

Yes, I understand that. He wanted someone to "remanufacture" his engine.
It was suggested it would be better value to just buy a used one.
Any reputable garage can swap an engine.

That would be the best, cheapest way for OP to get back on the road.
