2004 VW Golf issues (AA report help please)
Discussion
My sisters Golf decided it didn't want to work anymore on her way to my parents.
She said she was going round a roundabout and heard a loud clunk noise and lost pretty much all power.
Smoke was coming out of the exhaust and wouldn't go higher than second gear.
This is the report the AA have sent her after recovering. The bloke said it's something to do with the turbo but any VW guys on here seen these before?
Car is a GT TDI DSG with 165k on it.
I have a feeling it's scrap time but you never know.

Can't be of much help but, when we had an error flag up on our VW, we found Ross-Tech to be a useful source of information.

Surely that's just as described and a mechanical failure of the turbo. Smoke most likely from ingesting oil which won't have done it much good. This happened to me on a Seat Ibiza Sport TDI 130. For me a recon turbo was fitted and I got away without any other damage. Exhaust will probably be full of oil and will need to be drained. Again I was lucky and managed to burn it off without any adverse affects.

Thanks.
Just got to decide whether or not to even bother as there is no guarantee it's just the turbo that has failed.
For me the turbo and manifold was removed and oil feed/returns blanked off. We then ran it and confirmed nothing was "hydraulic'd" like a bent valve or rod. This is relatively easy to try before buying a turbo. Just got to decide whether or not to even bother as there is no guarantee it's just the turbo that has failed.
