Clutch Idle Dampers
Discussion
I've been trying to track down the cause of some free play in the driveline on the 944. So far have managed to narrow it down to somewhere in the clutch, play can be felt in the propshaft when in neutral but not when in gear and handbrake on.
Having gone through the cumbersome job of removing the clutch I cannot see any major damage to any of it's components (it only has ~4000 miles on it) but have noticed there is a little movement in the splined centre. I can turn this about 5-10 degrees with just light finger pressure.
Not hugely familiar with clutch design but a bit of googling suggests this is the first stage of the idle damper before the larger springs are taken up.
Does anyone know if this is normal, to be able to turn the splined section so much with only a little force?
