My knowledge is somewhat limited so bear with me. I have 2013 Twingo 133 which had the cam belt (+aux belt & water pump) changed inline with manufacturer recommendation by an independent garage in February this year.

Recently got a yellow engine management fault light and took it to a Renault specialist yesterday as I have since moved away from indie garage. After approximately a day or so of testing, the Renault specialists said the timing was off. As they didn't do the work on the car before, they've said to replace the cam belt - and also a pulley as there wouldn't be a labour charge (can't remember which pulley I'm afraid).

To me and my limited wisdom, that sounds like the indie garage could have set the timing wrong or done something? But then again would it take circa 9 months to cough up a fault? I'm essentially hoping that I may be able to get some money back from somewhere as I've now had the cam belt changed with two consecutive services which is definitely not normal. Or perhaps a fault elsewhere may mean a tiny car could just be costing me a not so tiny amount in bills because I'm unlucky.

Any help or info greatly appreciated!

If it was going to move then it would do so almost straight away, so its either always been out, something is failing or its something else. No garage will give you money back on the basis of another garages say so. I'm afraid you may need to take it back to the indi if you want a refund.

What was the fault code that was causing the EML light to illuminate?

Dephaser fault, DF080 I think. The garage changed the belt, dephaser pulley and reset the timing. Seems fine now. Just bad luck for me! When I googled dephasers the results seem to be abundant with Renault forums!
