July this year I purchased a new car. I was changing jobs doing 1/4 of the mileage and absolutely despised the Mondeo Diesel I was driving, and no longer really needed the economy.

After shopping around I came across a beautiful 52 plate A6 Sport. 2.0 Petrol. The paintwork is lovely, the underside of the car is in fantastic condition, the interior is perfect. It needed new discs/pads all round, still needs a Dash repair and some inexpensive sensor changes. There is an immense history of work on the vehicle and I think it has a lot of life left in it as a whole. The car itself was a mere £380 to purchase and looks amazing for what it is.

I'll stop waffling, the short version is I love the car, but have my doubts about the longevity of the engine and also believe it to be underpowered. The 2.0 Petrol engine has done almost 180k miles, and whilst still performing as expecting, has a few too many intermittent noises for my liking.

Which engines from the same Era of A6 are most easily transplanted into it? (2.4 V6 Petrol, 2.8 V6 Petrol being the preferred options)
What are the costs I may not be aware of for doing an engine swap?
Which other parts would I have to change?
Any general advice?

Thankyou

Sell it and buy a V6, you'd be looking at a world of pain going down the transplant route.

Yep...sell it and buy a car with the engine you want.

A totally pointless and mundane swap like that, is utterly pointless and all hassle. Even more so for something you intend to use as a daily.

And when you say the car has a huge history, and still needs a load of work...it just sounds like it has always been trouble, and will continue to be.

Depends which Mondeo I guess.

I'd think some very old ones are pretty nasty. I'd think new ones would be pretty good.

Selling it does seem to be the main feedback.

It's more that I've become quite attached to the car, especially the entirely pointless but nice looking wing! For arguments sake let's say it's a project to give the car a new lease of life.

As for what's wrong with Mondeos. Nothing specifically. But the particular Mondeo I had was deeply unpleasant to drive, understeered for fun, sounded like a strangled goat, looked ugly, had a coat hook exactly at head banging height and had uncomfortable seats. Plus it was a nasty "3 week old bruise" blue colour, as you can see in the background of the attached image!

You would be better looking into some Audi specific forums.

But you are looking to undertake something far more awkward than you think it will be, and for so little benefit.

If you want another Audi with a spoiler, just buy another Audi with a spoiler. Or remove your current one and fit it to it.

Physically of course everything can fit, all the parts can be bought etc etc, wiring can well be a nightmare.

Depends what skills and patience you have.
