Any advice please. On the base of the gear lever there is a split bronze bush that keeps the gear lever tight in the selector, this has for the second time jumped out of the selector,I assume the bush is worn and possibly the end of the gear lever,I,ve tried the later nylon version as fitted to MGB,s with no success, the originals are not available.I,m thinking dispense with the bush and build the base of the lever up with weld and machine to fit .Sooner or later if I retain the existing brass bush it will disappear into the depths of the gear box, been lucky so far.
Thanks

And what normally retains it ? Press fit ? other ?

Have you tried some suitable loctite or retaining compound ? Or for the plastic one, epoxy ?

The brass bush is two halves, there is a groove machined to its circumference which a spring wire fits into, the bush splays apart at the bottom end which is supposed to keep it located in the selector, weird idea and a bh to fit,It can easily fall apart during assembly, the bits falling into the tail shaft or worse. Not sure whether loctite would do the buis.I,m guessing the end of the gear lever is worn.Really hoping some one has had similar problem and can offer advice.
Thanks for your reply

a picture of said item would help.

And there are plenty of compounds that would secure it in....that you'd never get it back out without machining or substantial heat

Thanks for your interest.Hope this image helps to explain.I,ve yet to retrieve the other half of the bush,it’s laying in the tail shaft😩
To add I,m not sure if it should be glued in.
In order to locate the gear lever in the bush the two halves have to splay out slightly which the spring ring allows, hard to explain and I,ve found harder to fit.

Obviously something somewhere is worn if it's able to fall out.

Whether the bush or the housing it goes into. Or the spring clip is too weak or something ?

Thanks for all input, very hard to tell if any part is worn but as suggested I will check out the Healey parts, definitely needs a new clip.will obviously get a new bush if available.
