Hello all,

The last couple of weeks when I've gone to start up my Polo it has had the shakes, literally, they weren't too bad to begin with but on Friday morning and this morning not only does the car shake but the revs now also dip, I've noticed that if i give it some revs for about 5 seconds the problems will go.

I don't know much about cars but is there any idea of what this problem might be? Thanks

Car is a 16 plate 1.4 TDI diesel

Not too sure if it's the same but my lads 1.2 does the same thing!

If I press accelerator as I turn the key car starts fine - no shakes!

I’d always reccomend a cheap code reader for stuff like this.
Could well be cold related; glow plug system struggling or not working at all on one cylinder or more.
If you leave turn the ignition on 2 or three times to position 1 and leave it a few seconds before starting, is it any better?
Does it do lots of little journeys or does it get its legs stretched often enough?

Thanks for the replies, I will give it a go with turning the ignition on and off a couple of times.

As for the miles i do it's around 70-80 a day, plenty of motorway driving too.

The car is almost at 56k so maybe it's just that the glow plugs need replacing now? Not sure when they usually get replaced.

They’re usually very long lasting, but I suppose anything can fail any time. Do you know anyone with a cheap code reader to see if there’s anything going on?
